The musica_litera project is a cycle of three chamber evenings of music and literature aimed to present the natural relationship of music and artistic text in the untraditional, though attractive surroundings of The Nedbalka Gallery. Many works of literature and music were created in mutual coinspiration. At our performances we would like to stress this phenomenon and thus demonstrate the audience the authors´ inner message which they intended to put in their works.

Mucha Quartet will participate at the Bratislava Music Festival. Together with the pianist Magdaléna Bajuszová they will perform piano quintets by Béla Bartók and Alexander Albrecht.

4 - 8 - 9 September I Visegrad Music Festival 2015, South Korea

Mucha Quartet will take part at a tour of South Korea within the Visegrad Music Festival. It will perform in three cultural centres: 4th Sept 8pm - Seoul Arts Center, 8th Sept 7:30pm - Daegu Arts Center, 9th Sept 7:30pm - Busan Cultural Arts Center, Among the other performers will be Trio Martinu, Glass Duo and Camerata S., as well as the soloist Alexander Javorkai - violin.

30th July 2015 I Český Krumlov

Mucha Quartet will perform at the 24th International Music Festival in Český Krumlov. The performance will take place on the 30th of July 2015 at 7:30pm at the Masquerade Hall of the Český Krumlov Castle. Together with a musical mime Vladimír Kulíšek they will perform Vivaldi´s Four Seasons. Next programme: L.v.Beethoven, A. Dvořák.

5th July 2015 I LETNÁ PAUZA 2015 – Souvenir de Florence

Mucha Quartet will perform a concert at the festival called “Letná pauza” (Summer Break), which will take place on the 5th of July 2015 at 7:30pm in the church of St. Nicholaus in Poruba near Prievidza. You will hear works by F. Schubert (String Quintet in C major, D956) and P. I. Tchaikovsky (String Sextet Souvenir de Florence). Chamber partners will be Peter Vrbinčík – viola and Kristína Chalmovská – violoncello.

On the 23rd of June at 7:00 pm at the Palffy palace in the Zámocká street in Bratislava, do not miss a concert consisting of works by Alexander Albrecht in the interpretation of Mucha Quartet. It is a continuation of a concert performed by Mucha Quartet in 2011.

13th June 2015 I Concert in Schengen

Mucha Quartet will participate at the festival ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Schengen Treaty signing. They will perform at an orchestra called Academy Schengen-Bratislava under the baton of Jack Martin Händler and they will play works by W.A.Mozart and L.v.Beethoven. The performance will take place on the 13th June 2015 at 2pm in Schengen (Luxembourg).

Mucha Quartet was invited to perform a recital in Reggio Emilia, where it won the 2nd prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani 2014. Recital will take place on the 9th June 2015 at 9 pm at Teatro Cavallerizza. The programme includes works by authors: L. v. Beethoven, F. Schubert, D. Šostakovič.

26th May 2015 I Albrechtina – Fifth birthday

The association of Albrechtina organizes a concert celebrating the 5th anniversary of its establishment. The event will be held on the 26th of May 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Pálffy Palace in the Zámocká Street. Mucha Quartet will contribute with a musical piece by Alexander Albrecht.

Mucha Quartet and Magdaléna Bajuszová (piano) will perform as jurors at the Competition of renaissance and baroque music for chamber ensembles (20th March). The performance will be held on the 20th March 2015 at 5pm at the Basic Music School of J. Kowalski in the Laurinská Street 20 in Bratislava. They will play Muse and Dance for piano quintet by Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský.

15th March 2015 I Haydn – Seven Words – Hainburg

The performance of The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour On the Cross by Joseph Haydn in the interpretation of Mucha Quartet will take place on the 15th March 2015 (Sunday) at 5pm in the parish church of St. Phillip and Jacob in Hainburg (centre). The reflections between the movements will be performed by Mr. Othmar Posch, the vicar.

Mucha Quartet was selected to participate at the McGill International String Quartet Academy in Montreal (Canada), taking place from the 9th to 23rd of August 2014. The quartet worked under the leadership of professors, such as Gerhard Schulz, Günter Pichler, Michael Tree, Atar Arad or András Keller. Among other top quartets taking part at the masterclass, we can mention Calidore, Excelsa and Jubilee Quartet. MUCHA QUARTET performances within the event: 14th of August 2014, 7pm, Pollack Hall (J. Haydn, F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy), 21st of August 2014, 7pm, Pollack Hall (W. A. Mozart, D. Shostakovich). They celebrated a great success proved by standing ovations of the public and positive reviews in the Canadian media.

Mucha Quartet won the 1st prize at the Antonín Dvořák Chamber Music Competition in Prague, which was held from the 26th till the 29th of June 2014, at the Concert Hall of the Music School of the Capital Town Prague, Komenského náměstí 400/9, 130 00 Praha 3. Laureates´concert took place on the 29th June at 7pm in Rudolfinum (Suk Hall).

23rd May 2014 I Académie musicale Villecroze

Mucha Quartet took part at the final concert of the international masterclasses in Villecroze (FR), which were held from 13th till 24th of May 2014. The artistic leaders were Miguel da Silva and Alfred Brendel. Among other performers were also the quartets Goldmund, Girard and Cavatine.

On the 11th of May 2014 at 6pm in the Gallery of M. A. Bazovský (Palackého Street 27, Trenčín), the last concert of the Trenčín Music Spring will take place. There will be a recital of Mucha Quartet and the soloist Zuzana Vontorčíková (piano); together with Filip Jaro (double-bass) they will perform the Piano concerto No. 1 in E minor by F. On the 27th, 28th and 30th of March at 7.30pm in the Institute for Singing and Music Theatre (Penzinger Straße 7, Vienna) there will be performances of two extracts from the scientific dramas by Carl Djerassi (Austrian-American chemist, playwright and collector of art). Mucha Quartet will participate in the artistic rendering of the play EGO under the direction of Kai-Anne Schuhmacher (Germany). Dramatic action is interwoven with music by the Austrian composer Werner Schulze (work ISIS).

25th March 2014 I Mucha Quartet recital in Musikverein (Gläserner Saal)

The recital of Mucha Quartet took place on the 25th of March 2014 at 8pm at the Glass Haal of Musikverein. They presented an attractive programme composed of works by J. Haydn, J.L. Bella and I. Zeljenka within the cycle “Quartett.Impuls” in cooperation with Radio Stephansdom Vienna. The concert was realised with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.

Mucha Quartet participated at a concert on the 22nd of March 2014 at 9pm at the Stone Haal of Musikverein (Vienna) within the cycle “10 Years 4 New Halls”. Mucha Quartet will participate at the Musicological Conference organized by the Institute for Music Sociology, which will take place from 10th till 12th of October 2013 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Mucha Quartet will participate at the Bratislava Music Festival. The recital will take place on the 28th of September 2013 at 4pm at the Small Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic. The programme will consist of string quartets by Johann Nepomuk Hummel and Ján Levoslav Bella, as well as the Piano Quintet by Štefan Németh-Šamorínsky. The concert cycle entitled “Young Talents” organised by BASIS.KULTUR.WIEN in cooperation with Vienna Museum and Joseph Haydn Institute takes place for the second year. 7th Sept 2013 I Slovak concert in Szczecin (Poland)

On the 7th of September 2013 at 7pm Mucha Quartet will perform at the Slovak concert at the National Museum in Szczecin (Staromłyńska street 27). It will introduce attractive chamber works of Slovak composers, and thus complete the four concert series of the artists representing the countries of the Visegrád Four (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia). The event is organised by the association of Baltic Neopolis Orchestra (Szczecin). The first half of the concert will comprise pure quartet works by Juraj Tandler, Vladimír Godár and Ilja Zeljenka. In the second half the members of Mucha Quartet will join the chamber ensemble Baltic Neopolis Orchestra, and together they will perform works by Alexander Albrecht, Ladislav Kupkovič and Eugen Suchoň.

18th Aug 2013 I Mucha Quartet in the theatre inscenation EGO by Carl Djerassi

On Sunday the 18th of August at 8pm at the literary salon of the Wartholz Castle there will be a performance of two extracts from the scientific dramas by Carl Djerassi (Austrian-American chemist, playwright and collector of art). Mucha Quartet will participate in the artistic rendering of the play EGO under the direction of Kai-Anne Schuhmacher (Germany). Dramatic action is interwoven with music by the Austrian composer Werner Schulze (work ISIS).

17th Aug 2013 I Festival of Young Artists in Piešťany

The closing concert of the 7th “Festival of Young Artists” will be performed by Mucha Quartet. The concert will be held on the 17th of August at 7:30pm in the Congress centre on the Spa Island in Piešťany. The programme will start with the Shostakovich´s String Quartet No. 3 in F major with its mighty dramatic message about the moved times in Russia (composed in 1946), then as opposite Mucha Quartet will play Zeljenka´s String Quartet No. 14, which is his last quartet composition (2007), and at the end you will hear the charming “American Quartet” by Antonín Dvořák (1893). 12th Aug 2013 I Opening concert “Welcome to isa13″

Mucha Quartet will participate at the opening concert of the masterclasses “International Summer Academy” in Reichenau an der Rax. The concert will take place on the 12th of August at 7:30pm at the Reichenau Castle. Mucha Quartet will perform the overture to the Wagner´s opera “The Flying Dutchman” in the arrangement of Paul Hindemith, who introduces it in the version “as played at sight by a bad spa orchestra at the well at 7 in the morning”.

Mucha Quartet will perform a recital on Sunday the 4th of August 2013 within the Nitra Cultural Summer festival. Programme will consist of works by Haydn, Mozart and Dvořák. 2nd July 2013 I Thai-fest in Vienna

Mucha Quartet will participate at the opening ceremony of the “Thai-fest” which symbolizes the 60th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and Austria. The event will take place on the 2nd of July at 7pm in the Vienna entertainment park – Prater. Mucha Quartet will perform Haydn´s String Quartet in D major, op. 76/5 and Mozart´s Divertimento in Fstrong major, KV 138. Then they will play the most famous waltz composed by Johann Strauss – An der schönen blauen Donau, together with professional dancers.

30th June 2013 I Concert on the Orava Dam

Mucha Quartet will participate at the 37th year of the Music Summer in Námestovo. Concert will take place on the 30th of June 2013 at 6pm at the Church on the Slanica Island of Art on the Orava Dam. The program will consist of masterpieces by Vivaldi, Mozart, Bartók and Dvořák. For the visitors a ship transfer from the Slanica Village is secured from 5pm till 5:45pm. Celebrate the “World Music Day” by visiting the concert of the European Academy Bratislava-Schengen, which will take place on the 21th of June 2013 at 7pm in the Mirror Hall of the Primate´s palace in Bratislava. 25th May I Mucha Quartet at the ISA concert in Reichenau (AT)

Summer is approaching together with numerous masterclasses. Mucha Quartet will take part at the interpretation workshop ISA (Internationale Sommerakademie) which takes place in the Austrian town of Reichenau an der Rax and is organised by the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. This year´s main theme of the masterclasses is “SCANDAL?!”. Mucha Quartet has been chosen together with the Simply Quartet (China) as one of the ISA participants to present themselves at the Upbeat concert to ISA, which will be held in advance, on the 25th May 2013. The programme will include works by Hindemith/Wagner, Verdi and Shostakovich. 4th May 2013 I Presentation of graduate students of the Academy

The Presentation of graduates of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava takes place for the first time in history, and it aims to introduce young actors, film-makers and musicians who have been attending the last year of master study. 9th Apr 2013 I Friends of the Slovak Philharmonic

On the 9th of April at 4:30pm in the Reduta building of the Slovak Philharmony, Mucha Quartet will introduce itself to the members of Friends of the Slovak Philharmonic. They will present an interesting musical program consisting of works by Joseph Haydn, Maurice Ravel and Ilja Zeljenka.

Mucha Quartet in Contrapunkt – a German magazine

Mucha Quartet made an INTERVIEW and RECORDINGS for a German musicological magazine Contrapunkt. For this occasion they recorded the 2nd movement of the string quartet in F major by Maurice Ravel, the 3rd movement of the Shostakovich´s 3rd quartet in F major, op. 73 and the String Quartet No. 6 “In fretta, in vento” by the Irish composer Ian Wilson, to whom a separate article in this issue of Contrapunkt is dedicated.

14th-17th Mar 2013 I Chamber Music Competition – ILLZACH (France)

Mucha Quartet attended the 18th International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach (France), which was held on March 14 – 17, 2013. They confronted their performing skills in a broad international competition of 26 ensembles from 11 European countries. The repertoire ranged from classicism (J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart) to the 20th century (D. Shostakovich). They reached the semifinals.

Mucha Quartet will be a guest at the Diploma concert of Peter Malý – tenor from the class of Prof. Peter Mikuláš, ArtD. 8th Nov 2012 I Hommage to Ilja Zeljenka

Ilja Zeljenka (1932-2007) – remarkable Slovak composer, author of 14 string quartets, would celebrate his 80th birthday in 2012. Mucha Quartet will pay hommage to him by means of organising a concert, which will take place on the 8th November 2012 at the Seminary Hall of the University Library in Bratislava, Klariská 5. His musical language can be characterized by a clear formal structure and detailed motivic work. Therefore the first will be W. A. Mozart – String Quartet No. 14 G major, KV387. From Zeljenka´s works we have chosen 3 contrasting string quartets which are the milestones of his writing for this ensemble. You will hear the courageous and experimental String Quartet No. 1 (1963), monumental String Quartet No. 7 “Tribute to L.v.B” (1991) and synthetic String Quartet No. 14 (2006) – last work in this genre. After the concert you are invited for a little refreshment in the hall of the University Library. Entrance is free.

19th-20th Oct 2012 I Music for Trnava – Hommage to string quartet

Mucha Quartet will appear at the 10th anniversary of the festival Music for Trnava organized by Moyzes Quartet – chamber ensemble of the Skalica City. They will perform on two concerts. On Friday the 19th October at 6pm at the Gallery of Ján Koniarek they will offer the audience works by W.A.Mozart, Pieta (from the Slovak contemporary composer Mirko Krajči in premiere and string sextet by Hans Koessler. The second concert will take place on Saturday on the 20th October at 5pm in the music museum of the Castle in Dolná Krupá. Moyzes Quartet will perform compositions by Ladislav Kupkovič, Peter Martinček and together with Mucha Quartet they will play the string sextet by Ernst von Dohnány and charming string octet by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, which he wrote when he was 16.

The “Muchas” were awarded the 3rd prize at the Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award in Lugano. They managed to stand their ground on a high international level and successfully represented Slovakia in the field of chamber music.

Mucha Quartet is going to take part at the international Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award in Lugano (Switzerland), which is taking place from 5th to 9th september 2012. 13th – 31st Aug 2012 I Summer masterclasses in Austria

Mucha Quartet is going to take part at summer masterclasses of chamber music playing in august. The first event will be the International Summer Academy Prag-Wien-Budapest, taking place in Reichenau an der Rax, where they will work under the leadership of significant teachers, such as Johannes Meissl, Hatto Beyerle, Miguel da Silva and others. The end of august will be devoted to a week´s masterclass in Schwarzenberg led by Günter Pichler, the legendary first violinist of the Alban Berg Quartet. The ensemble was chosen personally to participate at the masterclass after the maestro had listened to their audio recording. Both events are a challenge for the quartet to present their art of making music and continuously improve their performing skills.

12th June 2012 I Chamber concert in the Primate´s Palace

On Tuesday 12th of June 2012 at 7pm in the Primate´s Palace – Hall of Mirrors, Chamber concert of the European Music Academy Bratislava-Schengen will take place. In the first half of the concert you will hear chamber and virtuoso works of D. Shostakovich, H. Wieniawski, J. N. Hummel and F. Waxman. The performers will be students of the Academy of Performing Arts Bratislava. The second part will offer The Piano Quintet A major, op. 81 by A. Dvořák performed by Stanislav Gallin and the Mucha Quartet. The concert is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia.

14th May 2012 I Doctorate recital of Stanislav Gallin

On Monday the 14th of May at 7pm at the “Dvorana” concert hall of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava the Doctorate recital of an exceptional pianist MgA. Stanislav Gallin will take place. You will hear the Piano Sonata in B minor by Franz Liszt and the piano quintets by Robert Schumann and Antonín Dvořák in the chamber cooperation with the Mucha Quartet.

13th May 2012 I Trenčín Music Spring – recital

The Mucha Quartet will introduce itself to the audience of Trenčín on the 13th of May at 6pm in the Refectory of the Piarist Collegium with the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, František Kramář-Krommer and Antonín Dvořák. The oboe player Katarína Melišková will be the guest performer at the concert.

11th Apr 2012 I Mucha Quartet in the Slovak Radio

On Wednesday the 11th of April 2012 at 7pm at the Studio Two of RTVS (Radio and Television of Slovakia) Mucha Quartet participated at the concert of the barytone singer Tomáš Šelc. In addition to the songs of an important Slovak composer Alexander Albrecht (1885-1958) Mucha Quartet performed some of his chamber works. The recording of this concert will be transmitted on the 9th of May 2012 at 7pm on Radio Devín.

8th Apr 2012 I Easter concert in Partizánske

On Easter Sunday the 8th of April at 4pm Mucha Quartet will perform on a festival concert in Partizánske. They will offer the audience jewels of classical music by composers such as J. Pachelbel, A. Vivaldi, W. A. Mozart and A. Dvořák. The concert is taking place in the Roman-Catholic Church of the Divine Heart of Jesus, it is organised by the Town of Partizánske.

30th Mar 2012 I Diploma concert of Katarína Melišková (oboe)

The diploma concert of Katarína Melišková, a student of chamber music in the class of doc. Mária Heinzová, ArtD. will take place on Friday 30th March at 6.30pm in the Dvorana Hall of Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava. Together with members of Mucha Quartet they will perform The Oboe Quartet No.1 in C major by a Czech composer František Kramář-Krommer (1759-1831).

26th Feb 2012 I 5th International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition, Vienna

Mucha Quartet participated at the prestigious international competition of string quartets and piano trios in Vienna, which bears the name of one of the most important composers of chamber music, Joseph Haydn. The ensemble was chosen on the basis of a successful audio recording. The wide competition repertoire consisted of quartet literature ranging from the works of Joseph Haydn up to contemporary authors.

13th Dec 2011 I Mucha Quartet in Banská Bystrica at the festival „Music Salons in Regions 2011″

Mucha Quartet invites you to the recital, which is taking place on Dec 13 at 5pm at the concert hall of the Faculty of Music, Academy of Arts. They will present works by the Slovak composers Ilja Zeljenka – String Quartet No.7 „Hommage à Beethoven“, and Jevgenij Iršai – String Quartet No.3 entitled „L.H.O.O.Q“ dedicated to Marcel Duchamp. As an opposite to the Slovak modern style, they will perform one of the top works by Antonín Dvořák – String Quartet No.13 in G major, op. 106.

22nd Nov 2011 I Elgar in the Luxembourg Philharmony

As a part of the project “Academy Chamber Orchestra Schengen Bratislava” the Mucha Quartet has been invited to perform the solo part of a work written by the English composer Edward Elgar – Introduction and Allegro, op.47 for string quartet and string orchestra. A young Slovak pianist – Ladislav Fanzowitz will present Mozart´s 9th piano concerto and the Mephisto Waltz No.1 in the chamber music hall of the Luxembourg Philharmony. Under the lead of the conductor Jack Martin Händler, the musicians will thus bring a bit of the Slovak performance culture to one of the European metropolises.

8th Nov 2011 I Premiere of a new string quartet by Evgeny Irshai at the festival “Confrontations”

This year the 8th year of the festival “Confrontations” takes place in Nitra. It focuses on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, whereas it is confronted with the visual art of contemporary Slovak authors. The festival also reflects anniversaries of significant Slovak and world composers. The Mucha Quartet will perform string quartets by Zeljenka and Dvořák and also introduce a premiere of the String Quartet No.3 “L.H.O.O.Q” by Evgeny Irshai dedicated to Marcel Duchamp. The concert takes place on 8th November 2011 in the Nitra Synagogue.

25th Oct 2011 I Chamber concert in the Slovak Philharmony

The Mucha Quartet will be introduced to the scene of the Slovak Philharmony on 25th October 2011 in the Dvorana (Hall) of the Academy of Performig Arts in Bratislava in the cycle of New Music. The concert focuses on the works of Miro Bázlik and among other performers are: Daniel Buranovský, Tomáš Jánošík, Jozef Eliáš, Juraj Sťahel, Ján Slávik, Rastislav Sokol and the Moyzes Quartet. The Mucha Quartet will perform Bázlik´s String Quartet dedicated to the memory of Miro Horňák.

6th Sep 2011 I Moyzes and Mucha Quartet have opened the festival Albrechtina in the Palffy Palace

The first Albrechtina in this year´s concert season was devoted to the works of late-romantic composers – Hans Koessler and Ernst von Dohnányi. String sextets of both authors were played in such a way, that the members of Moyzes and Mucha Quartet mutually exchanged in the roles of leaders and guest players. An enrichment was provided by means of “11 little pieces for 3-4 violins” by Alexander Albrecht and “4 Silesian Dances” by Witold Lutoslawski also for 4 violins.

20th June 2011 I Mucha Quartet at the Albrechtina

The Mucha Quartet will appear in the cycle of concerts called (Un)known music – Albrechtina organised by an important Slovak composer Vladimír Godár. The cycle´s aim is to get to know better many known and less known works of significant Slovak composers of the 20th century. The profile concert of the works by Alexander Albrecht takes place on 20th June at 7pm in the Palffy Palace on the Zámocká Street.
